Hollywood Live! Benefit Insight for The Blind 7:45pm | Pompano Beach Cultural Center, 50 W Atlantic Blvd

The Pompano Beach Cultural Center is proud to host a dazzling evening of entertainment to benefit Insight for the Blind. “Hollywood Live!” directed by Shari Upbin, features an all-star cast and showcases some of the most beloved songs from the Silver Screen from the 1940s on. Proceeds from the event will allow Insight for the Blind, serving all of South Florida, to continue promoting literacy within the visually impaired community through the recording of Talking Books, a program of the Library of Congress. “We are thrilled to present this star-studded event as a way to increase awareness and support for our organization,” said Matt Corey, CEO of Insight for the Blind. “Our fundraising efforts allow us to create recorded books for our sight-challenged community at no cost to them.” The Hollywood Live! is produced and directed by Shari Upbin, who has staged this show with a variety of casts in New York and South Florida through her company Sharell Productions. For this event, a who’s who of theatre greats will be in the spotlight including Jeffrey Bruce, Lindsey Corey, Laura Hodos, Michael Focas, Amy Tanner, Mark Sanders and Sandi Stock, with musical and band direction by Caryl Fantel, Roy Fantel and Ruppert Zwienski. “Hollywood Live features a wealth of songs and juicy stories,” explained Upbin. “We will be recreating classic clips from famed MGM musicals and sharing some fascinating tinsel town tales as well. This show was declared a “joy to behold,” by Cabaret Magazine and the event will be the perfect opportunity for the audience to experience a spectacular evening while supporting one of the most worthwhile organizations.”

Theater: The Christians 8:00pm | Pompano Beach Cultural Center, 50 W Atlantic Blvd

Winner of the 2016 Outer Critics Circle Award, The Christians is a complex, multi-layered exploration of faith, belief and the seemingly insurmountable distance that separates us. “This play, while set in a Protestant Christian church, creates a dialogue that transcends religion, and is incredibly poignant at this time in our nation,” said Skye Whitcomb, Outré’s Artistic Director and the director of the production. “The thing that strikes me most about The Christians is that for all the struggle that the characters go through, there is no ‘bad guy.’ Every one of these characters is coming from a place of personal truth, of belief, and they struggle with reconciling the differences in their beliefs. There’s this heartbreaking distance between them that tugs at the soul. And one of the most wrenching questions that the play forces us to contemplate is what we should do when those we love believe something that is not only different from what we believe, but believe something that we feel is actually dangerous.”

TOTO's 40 Trips Around the Sun Tour 8:00pm | The Amp (Pompano Beach Amphitheater), 1806 NE 6th St

AEG Presents is proud to bring TOTO's 40 Trips Around the Sun Tour to The Pompano Beach Amp on October 28, 2018. This concert will be part of the band's first set of North American shows in support of their 40th Anniversary. For tickets and more information, www.pbamp.com.

It’s without question, that TOTO are currently in the middle of a major resurgence around the world. The band’s brand new Greatest Hits package titled 40 Trips Around The Sun (Legacy Recordings - Sony) debuted in the Top 40 in eight different countries. Their European tour earlier this year saw them performing to packed houses every night including sold out stops at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam and Royal Albert Hall in London. Most recently, Weezer’s covers of the classic TOTO hits “Rosanna” and “Africa” have attracted a ton of media attention along with over five million plays of the tracks.

TOTO also recently announced the release of their definitive box set: All In via Legacy Recordings (a division of Sony Music). This limited edition release is still available for pre-order here.

Few ensembles in the history of recorded music have individually or collectively had a larger imprint on pop culture than the members of TOTO. As individuals, the band members can be heard on an astonishing 5000 albums that together amass a sales history of a half a billion albums. Amongst these recordings, NARAS applauded the performances with more than 200 Grammy nominations. Toto has over 400 million streams on Spotify alone along while views on YouTube far exceed over a half billion.

With over 40 years together and literally thousands of credits, including the biggest selling album of all time: Michael Jackson’s Thriller, and accolades to their names,TOTO remains one of the top selling touring and recording acts in the world. They are the benchmark by which many artists base their sound and production, and they continue to transcend the standards set by the entire music community, being simply synonymous with musical credibility. Their repertoire continues to be current via high profile usage on broadcast television. They are pop culture, and are one of the few 70’s bands that have endured the changing trends and styles to a career enjoy a multi-generational worldwide fan base. The 40 Trips Around The Sun Tour is the band’s most extensive run in years.

Theater: The Christians 2:00pm | Pompano Beach Cultural Center, 50 W Atlantic Blvd
