This popular family event is a partnership between the cities of Lighthouse Point & Pompano Beach. The Nautical Flea Market is held in the serene Pompano Park. Meander along the walkway and visit over 350 vendor displays. Take a break & listen to the steel drum music, enjoy lunch & a cold drink. Relax in a comfortable chair & enjoy an adult beverage at the Knottie Lounge.

A Neil Simon Classic at The Pompano Beach Cultural Center.

Curtain Call Playhouse is proud to present the first South Florida production of The Goodbye Girl, The Musical in more than fifteen years. The delightful romantic musical comedy, based on Neil Simon’s award-winning film, will have four performances at The Pompano Beach Cultural Center. “We are delighted to bring this iconic film to life with a wonderful score and an array of heartfelt and humorous lyrics,” said Artistic Director Kris Coffelt. “We are dedicating this season to showcasing plays written by the late Neil Simon, and The Goodbye Girl, is one of his most brilliant.”

The plot follows the film’s, featuring the unlikely romance between Paula, a single mother who has been jilted one too many times, and Elliot, the opinionated actor who shows up unexpectedly on her doorstep with a lease to sublet her apartment. Simon’s collaborators for the musical were Marvin Hamlisch (A Chorus Line) who wrote the tuneful score and lyricist David Zippel (City of Angels, Disney’s Hercules). The Broadway show was nominated for five Tony Awards including Best Musical.

The three central characters are played by Melissa Burde as Paula, Sara Weinstein as her daughter Lucy, and Rob Romero as Elliot. The musical is directed by Jerry Jensen, and Jerry Berger is the Musical Director & Orchestrator.

ArtLit 2019: A Day of Heros 12:00pm - 10:00pm | Pompano Beach Cultural Center, 50 W Atlantic Blvd

Mark your calendars in vivid color for Saturday, January 19th from Noon to 10PM as Broward County Library and the City of Pompano Beach present ArtLit 2019: A Day of Heroes. This unique, free community event for all ages will take place at the Pompano Beach Library & Cultural Center, 50 W Atlantic Boulevard, Pompano Beach, FL 33060, 954-357-7595.

ArtLit is a community celebration of art and literature with a playful explosion of live chalk art, canvas art, music, virtual reality demonstrations, interactive experiences, food trucks, and fun for all ages. Free live art creation and entertainment will be offered day and night for a total of ten hours. Everyone is invited to join in a day of artful literary entertainment–a perfect way to celebrate Pompano Beach Library & Cultural Center’s first anniversary.

In 2018, Broward County Library held its first ChalkLit festival and saw record-breaking crowds at the Main Library. Pompano Beach Cultural Center held an incredibly successful ArtPop celebration this year as well. In January 2019, both celebrations will be combined and expanded to present ArtLit: A Day of Heroes. Everyone who loved ChalkLit or ArtPop will not want to want miss this new collaborative effort that will be even bigger.

“We are excited to follow our successful 2018 ChalkLit festival and partner with the City of Pompano Beach to produce ArtLit,” says Broward County Libraries Director Kelvin Watson. “What a great way to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Pompano Beach Library & Cultural Center! I’m sure the heroes theme will be a fun and inspirational subject for the artists participating as well as everyone who attends. We all need and appreciate heroes.”

ArtLit is a signature event for Broward County Library Reads. The month-long program celebrates the power of the written word and features events for all ages. The theme for the 2019 Broward County Library Reads is heroes and features the books of bestselling local author Brad Meltzer. Recommended books include: The Escape Artist (for adults), Heroes for My Son and Heroes for My Daughter (for youth), and the I am… Ordinary People Change the World picture book series (for children).

Life Drawing Studio 11:00am - 2:00pm | Bailey Contemporary Arts, 41 NE 1st Street

Life Drawing, also referred to as Figure Drawing, is the best and quickest way to improve your drawing skills and your visual perception. Life drawing trains your eye to catch things that photos do not show. Therefore learning to master figure drawing is more than bones and muscles, it is about the subtle differences and minor details such as weight-bearing and positioning that translates to all forms.

We are excited to be able to bring this opportunity to all artists through our new Life Drawing Studio at Bailey Contemporary Arts in the City of Pompano Beach.

During this 2-hour session, live models pose draped for short "gesture" as well as longer poses. This program is ideal for individuals interested in portrait painting, character design, illustration, animation, anatomical drawing, however ALL artists benefit from Life Drawing sessions.

Artists are invited to bring their own materials and supplies.

This activity doesn’t provide formal instruction; participants work at their own pace and in their preferred medium.

In addition, the space will host cooking classes by local chefs and free programs to introduce local youth to culinary careers."
