Culinary Kitchen Program I 8-Week Culinary Business Workshop 6:00pm - 8:30pm | E. Pat Larkins Center, 520 MLK Blvd

The creation of this culinary workshop is just one facet of the overall plan, the Pompano Beach CRA envisions this center becoming an economic engine for the community, providing burgeoning culinary entrepreneurs with guidance, support and the kitchen to help grow their businesses.

The facility will also operate as a commercial kitchen where food trucks, caterers and other food service providers, from any city, can rent the space to prepare food and receive the technical assistance needed to establish and grow their businesses. In addition, the space will host cooking classes by local chefs and free programs to introduce local youth to culinary careers."

Life Drawing, also referred to as Figure Drawing, is the best and quickest way to improve your drawing skills and your visual perception. Life drawing trains your eye to catch things that photos do not show. Therefore learning to master figure drawing is more than bones and muscles, it is about the subtle differences and minor details such as weight-bearing and positioning that translates to all forms.

We are excited to be able to bring this opportunity to all artists through our new Life Drawing Studio at Bailey Contemporary Arts in the City of Pompano Beach.

During this 2-hour session, live models pose draped for short "gesture" as well as longer poses. This program is ideal for individuals interested in portrait painting, character design, illustration, animation, anatomical drawing, however ALL artists benefit from Life Drawing sessions.

Artists are invited to bring their own materials and supplies.

This activity doesn’t provide formal instruction; participants work at their own pace and in their preferred medium.

Space available for 6 participants per session, so register early!

This is an open Call for Auditions for African American female actors, ages 16+, for the staged reading of the critically acclaimed show For Colored Girls, which opened on Broadway in 1977 and received a Tony Award, Drama Desk Award and a Theatre World Award. Synopsis -- a black woman explores seven facets of herself and emerges a stronger person in Ntozake Shange's "choreo-poem." Please be prepared for the July 21 auditions with a one-two minute monologue. The play reading will take place on August 31 at the Pompano Beach Cultural Center.

Hillsboro Lighthouse July 2019 Tour 8:30am - 12:30pm | 125 North Riverside Drive

Times: 8:30, 9:30, 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 1:30, 2:30

A fun day at the lighthouse. Enjoy the cool ocean breezes blowing with crispness in the air. A current HLPS membership or a $35 PP transportation fee is required.

Come to 125 North Riverside Drive, Pompano Beach, FL on the North side of the Sands Harbor Resort and Marina. Parking is on the east side of the street in the City (pay) parking lot.

Registration/check-in starts 30 minutes prior to the first sail time and remains open until the last boat returns.

The boat leaves the Sands dock to the lighthouse at each sail time. The boat leaves the Lighthouse dock to the Sands approximately 30 minutes later (for an approximate 1 hour round trip). We suggest an arrival at the respective dock 10-20 minutes before the departure time. Friendly members will register/check you in, provide you with a wrist band, and assist you with boarding for the boat ride to/from the lighthouse.

Free Health and Financial Wellness Fair 10:00am - 3:00pm | Emma Lou Olson Civic Center, 1801 NE 6th Street

The City of Pompano Beach is offering a Health and Financial Wellness Fair that is free and open to the public. The Fair is being held at the Emma Lou Olson Civic Center located at 1801 NE 6th Street on Wednesday, July 24th and Thursday, July 25th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Local hospitals and medical providers will be conducting free screenings: glucose, blood-pressure and spinal screenings. The Big Red Bus blood mobile will be on site in the parking lot for those wanting to donate blood. In addition, free 30 minute financial seminars will be held and a $25 gift card will be raffled away at each financial seminar. The Pompano Beach Health and Financial Wellness Fair will also have health and life insurance representatives on site, as well as door prizes and giveaways throughout the day. Attend a food demo or enjoy the live on-stage music. Bella the Clown will be on hand to delight children with face painting.

Montage – A Film Series 1:00pm - 3:00pm | Pompano Beach Cultural Center, 50 W Atlantic Blvd

This month, Montage celebrates National Dance Day with a screening of the documentary, Pina, is a 2011 German film which examines the life and career of choreographer and contemporary dancer Pina Bausch. It was directed by Wim Wenders and premiered at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival. During the preparation of the documentary, Pina Bausch died unexpectedly. Wenders cancelled the film production, but the other dancers of Tanztheater Wuppertal convinced him to make the film anyway. It showcases these dancers, who talk about Pina and perform some of her best-known pieces inside the Tanztheater Wuppertal and in various outdoor locations around the city of Wuppertal.
