An Evening with The Avett Brothers 8:00pm | The Amp (Pompano Beach Amphitheater), 1806 NE 6th St

The Pompano Amp and AEG Live are proud to present an evening with The Avett Brothers, who are on tour for their new album, True Sadness, which landed the #1 spot on Billboard’s Top Albums Chart, Rock Albums Chart and Digital Albums Chart.

The acclaim for this new release has been overwhelming. Rolling Stone extolled it as “Their most heart-baring LP,” while Paste dubbed it, “Their most surprising album.” People claimed, “The sincerity of the lyrics keeps the boys true to their roots,” and Interview wrote, “As a whole, True Sadness is the band’s most intimate and exploratory album to date.” The Current summed up its impact asserting, “The Avett Brothers have emerged as the key act redefining the genre.”

The North Carolina based band consists of Scott and Seth Avett, singer-bassist Bob Crawford, drummer Mike Marsh, pianist Paul Defiglia, cellist Joe Kwon and violinist Tania Elizabeth. Their unique mix of folk, rock and blue grass, has led the San Francisco Chronicle to describe the band as having the “heavy sadness of Townes Van Zandt, the light pop concision of Buddy Holly, the tuneful jangle of the Beatles, the raw energy of the Ramones.”

The band made mainstream waves in 2009 with I and Love and You. The critically acclaimed album was followed up with another hit in 2012, The Carpenter, and then with Magpie and the Dandelion. The group has been featured on Jimmy Kimmel LIVE!, The Today Show, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Late Show with David Letterman and more. In 2015, the band supported The Rolling Stones for the first time at the Zip Code Tour in Raleigh.

With a string of sold out shows across the country, The Amp is excited to have the band take the stage in Pompano Beach.

Lynyrd Skynyrd 7:00pm | The Amp (Pompano Beach Amphitheater), 1806 NE 6th St

The Pompano Beach Amphitheater and AEG Live are proud to present the band who defined Southern Rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd. The band’s legacy began in Jacksonville, Florida over four decades ago and their classic hits including “Free Bird,” “Sweet Home Alabama,” and “Simple Man,” are still a mainstay of rock-n-roll radio.

In 1977, the band tragically lost three band members, and after a hiatus chose to rock on. Today the band includes original member Gary Rossington joined by Johnny Van Zant, Rickey Medlock, Mark “Sparky” Matejka, Michael Cartellone, Johnny Colt, Peter Keys, Dale Krantz Rossington and Carol Chase.

Currently CMT is in production for new documentary about the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, which is set to air in 2017.

Rossington recently said, “We’re still standing, still keeping the music going. We wanted to do the guys who aren’t with us any more proud, and keep the name proud, too.”

With a catalog of over 60 albums, sales beyond 30 million worldwide and their beloved classic American rock anthem “Sweet Home Alabama” having over two million downloaded ringtones, Lynyrd Skynyrd remains a cultural icon that appeals to all generations.

The show at The Amp also features two Southern Rock opening acts, who also have their roots in Florida, The Outlaws and Blackfoot.

About The Outlaws:
Formed in Tampa in 1972, The Outlaws – known for their triple-guitar rock attack and three-part country harmonies – became one of the first acts signed by Clive Davis (at the urging of Ronnie Van Zant) to his then-fledgling Arista Records. The band’s first three albums The Outlaws, Lady In Waiting and Hurry Sundown – featuring such rock radio favorites as “There Goes Another Love Song,” “Green Grass & High Tides,” “Knoxville Girl” and “Freeborn Man” – would become worldwide gold and platinum landmarks of the Southern Rock era. Known as ‘The Florida Guitar Army’ by their fans, The Outlaws earned a formidable reputation as an incendiary live act touring with friends The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Marshall Tucker Band and The Charlie Daniels Band as well as The Doobie Brothers, The Who, Eagles and The Rolling Stones.

About Blackfoot:
Founded by Lynryd Skynrd guitarist, Rickey Medlocke, Blackfoot, beautifully meshes traditional tones and with modern sensibilities. Under Medlocke’s steady guidance, the Florida based foursome – lead guitarist/vocalist Tim Rossi, guitarist/vocalist Rick Krasowski and drummer Matt Anastasi – have been jamming together live under the vaunted Blackfoot banner for quite some time, and now they’re ready to release a hard charging new album on Loud & Proud Records, Southern Native.

Under the clothes is skin. Under the skin is sound. And her. The Works of Linda Behar, Raheleh Filsoofi and Sibel Koçabasi 10:00am - 6:00pm | Bailey Contemporary Arts, 41 NE 1st Street

What makes a woman, a woman? Bailey Contemporary Arts newest exhibit showcases three outstanding artists, Linda Behar, Sibel Koçabasi and Raheleh Filsoofi, who present thought-provoking perspectives on gender and a variety of social and political issues. Exploring the feminine, an array of questions arise about the perceptions and realities of being a woman. Is the identity of a woman a matter of choice, or is it a social construct? Is the content of femininity imposed by society, or is there some degree of buy-in by women themselves? What image remains of women in history, when the individual no longer has the option of forming it herself?

The artists, Americans who themselves each come from different cultural backgrounds outside the United States, hope to inspire viewers to think critically and foster a new dialogue on vital global issues regarding women.
