Spiritual Vessels - Opening Reception 6:00pm - 9:00pm | Bailey Contemporary Arts, 41 NE 1st Street

Spiritual Vessels
Tony Khawam’s Vision of Syria’s War-torn Cities, Urban Landscapes Paintings
Jeff Whyman’s Intergalactic Vessels
On view: December 1, 2017- January 5, 2018
Opening Reception: Friday, December 1, 6:00pm-9:00pm (during Old Town Untapped)
Artist Remarks: Saturday, December 2, 11:00am-1:00pm

This exhibition brings together two artists whose work reflects the immediacy of their technique and timelessness of their message. Through energetic brush strokes, expressive clay modeling, vibrant colors and construction by deconstruction, the viewer can witness the intangible in their work. Like our memories and without a direct timeline, each piece in this exhibition brings a fragmented reality with different points of view.

Tony Khawam’s abstract paintings invite us to observe life suspended in time. The rapid strokes in his images represent collapsed structures that mark a moment in time, while his use of bright colors embodies the timeless feeling of hope.

Jeff Whyman’s sculptural work invites the viewer to reflect on the circle of life. His vessels are created through rapid execution and full energy. In his process, Whyman creates a basic shape using clay that is rapidly modified with the addition of different shapes of clay and other materials.
