The City of Pompano Beach Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department invites bring your lawn chairs, blankets and picnics and come enjoy a featured presentation under the stars at the great lawn on the first Friday of every month at the Great Lawn. As a Matter of Black Exhibition Opening Reception 6:00pm - 9:00pm | Bailey Contemporary Arts, 41 NE 1st Street

MUCE presents its annual exhibition "As a Matter of Black, a Seat at the Table." This show is a collective of three visual artists that explores the table as a constant to discuss a seat at the table in the context of family, food, policy and celebration of the Black life experience. Three artists bring the concept to life through visual painting, sculpture, and storytelling. A table installation is included as part of the exhibit and utilized as an interactive art piece during the opening reception. Opening ceremony (Jan 4, 2019) includes dinner reception from local Pompano chef, which includes Q&A with visual artists and Chef to discuss what a seat at the table looks like intergenerationally.

MUCE is an arts production company that installs and curates pop up exhibitions to activate corporate and community brands. Working in heritage neighborhoods, MUCE also brings rich cultural programming from hyper local spaces to the cultural explorer through live painters, performers, festivals and niched cultural experiences.

Old Town Untapped is a monthly craft beer and arts festival hosted by the Pompano Beach CRA and features free samples of local beers crafted by breweries in Pompano Beach's emerging craft beer scene. In addition the streets of Old Town are lined with food trucks, artists, crafters and interactive art. Inside Bailey Contemporary Arts, guests can grab some locally roasted coffee at Blooming Bean Coffee Roasters and walk through the galleries rotating art exhibits each month.

Curtain Call Playhouse is proud to present the first South Florida production of The Goodbye Girl, The Musical in more than fifteen years. The delightful romantic musical comedy, based on Neil Simon’s award-winning film, will have four performances at The Pompano Beach Cultural Center. “We are delighted to bring this iconic film to life with a wonderful score and an array of heartfelt and humorous lyrics,” said Artistic Director Kris Coffelt. “We are dedicating this season to showcasing plays written by the late Neil Simon, and The Goodbye Girl, is one of his most brilliant.”

The plot follows the film’s, featuring the unlikely romance between Paula, a single mother who has been jilted one too many times, and Elliot, the opinionated actor who shows up unexpectedly on her doorstep with a lease to sublet her apartment. Simon’s collaborators for the musical were Marvin Hamlisch (A Chorus Line) who wrote the tuneful score and lyricist David Zippel (City of Angels, Disney’s Hercules). The Broadway show was nominated for five Tony Awards including Best Musical.

The three central characters are played by Melissa Burde as Paula, Sara Weinstein as her daughter Lucy, and Rob Romero as Elliot. The musical is directed by Jerry Jensen, and Jerry Berger is the Musical Director & Orchestrator.

ArtLit 2019 – A Day of Heros 12:00pm - 10:00pm | Pompano Beach Cultural Center, 50 W Atlantic Blvd

Broward County Library and the City of Pompano Beach present ArtLit 2019: A Day of Heroes, a unique, free community event for all.

ArtLit is a community celebration of art and literature with a playful explosion of live chalk art, canvas art, music, virtual reality demonstrations, interactive experiences, food trucks, and fun for all ages. Free live art creation and entertainment will be offered day and night for a total of ten hours. Everyone is invited to join in a day of artful literary entertainment--a perfect way to celebrate Pompano Beach Library & Cultural Center’s first anniversary.

In 2018, Broward County Library held its first ChalkLit festival and saw record-breaking crowds at the Main Library. Pompano Beach Cultural Center held an incredibly successful ArtPop celebration this year as well. In January 2019, both celebrations will be combined and expanded to present ArtLit: A Day of Heroes. Everyone who loved ChalkLit or ArtPop will not want to want miss this new collaborative effort that will be even bigger.

She has previously performed at the Magnum Lounge in Miami and is also currently a weekly featured performer at Georgie’s Alibi-Wilton Manors. Ms. Jaye is a regular performer at Casablanca Cafe in Ft. Lauderdale and is one of the lead vocalists with the renown South Florida Motown/Supremes musical tribute group The Ladies of Soul. She embodies all 3 of the new 3-act Icons of SOUL tribute show of Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle & Chaka Khan.
