Commissioner Michael Sobel, District 1
Michael Sobel was elected in November of 2016 to serve as commissioner for the beach area of Pompano Beach.
Commissioner Sobel has been an attorney for 38 years, licensed in Florida, Michigan and Washington D.C. Mr. Sobel is currently managing partner of his Pompano Beach law firm, working together with both of his sons who are also attorneys. Prior to opening his practice in Pompano Beach, Michael was a Broward County Traffic Court Magistrate, 46th District Court Magistrate, Court Appointed Guardian Ad Litem, Circuit Court Appointed Mediator, Legal Assistant at the Michigan Attorney General’s Organized Crime Division and Oakland County Assistant State Prosecuting Attorney.
Mr. Sobel received his Juris Doctorate Degree from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School and earned a Bachelor Degree with high distinction from the University of Michigan.
Michael Sobel has volunteered in many capacities of civic and community service. He is a long-time member and Paul Harris Fellow of the Pompano Beach Rotary Club, former president and administrative board member of Pompano Beach Condominium Associations, member of the Pompano Beach Elk's Club and current lifetime member of Pap Corps Champions for Cancer Research.
