General Election Information

Municipal Elections are held every two even numbered years in November concurrent with county-wide General Elections.

The Pompano Beach City Commission is comprised of six members, the Mayor and five Commissioners. The Mayor is elected at-large for a four year term and each commissioner is elected by district for a two year term. Candidates for municipal office must file the appropriate forms with the City Clerk prior to opening a campaign account and to qualify for office. Elections are conducted in accordance with the provisions of the City Charter and Florida Statutes. For further information please call the City Clerk’s office at 954-786-4611.

Qualifying for Office

Pursuant to Section 7, Article II of the City’s Charter, Candidates shall have been residents of the election district from which they are elected for at least one (1) year immediately preceding their election. They shall have the qualifications of electors in the city and shall be registered to vote in the city. They must continue to reside during their term of office in the respective election district from which they are elected or appointed.

Qualifying and Assessment Fees

An amount equal to 1% of the annual salary of position sought plus $50 City filing fee (Sections 99.092(1) and 99.093(1) , F.S.). The fees must be paid by a check drawn from the campaign checking account. Voting

Polling Places within the City are designated by the Broward County Supervisor of Elections, from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time). For information about registering to vote or general voting procedures, please contact the Broward County Supervisor of Elections' Office at 954-357-7050 between 8 am and 5 pm, Monday though Friday.
