Pompano Beach Junior Lifeguard Program
Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts Department offers a Junior Lifeguard Program each year during the months of June, July, and August for boys and girls age 9-17.
The mission of the Pompano Beach Junior Lifeguard program is to provide quality education and increase self-confidence, physical conditioning, and ocean awareness through instruction in water safety, first aid, beach ecology, and surf rescue techniques.
The Pompano Beach Junior Lifeguard Program introduces young people to safe marine and aquatic recreational opportunities. The program is designed to improve young people’s physical conditioning, their understanding and respect for the environment, and their respect for themselves, their parents, and their peers.
All Junior Lifeguard applicants must pass a Swimming Proficiency Test that includes: (1) Swim 150 yards (6 lengths) non-stop with a time limit of five minutes. (2) Tread water for at least three minutes. (3) Swim 5 yards underwater.
JG Grommets are required to complete a 50 yard swim in a swimming pool (No time limit).*
