Women In Distress believes that each survivor of domestic violence has the right to a safe, secure home and the capability to self-determine their violence free future. That is why we center our efforts in providing an environment that will help our participants recover from the traumatic effects of victimization and develop an understanding and awareness of the dynamics of domestic violence by empowering them to gain independence and self-sufficiency.

Benjamin’s Boutique strives to bring the community together by Crafting for a Cause. Through crafting and community bonding we will be crafting Beaded Bra Straps for Women in Distress. The craft will be donated along with an optional monetary donation. Join us, learn a new skill and help support a wonderful foundation!

Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse Tour

A fun day at the lighthouse. Enjoy the cool ocean breezes blowing with crispness in the air. Come to 125 North Riverside Drive, Pompano Beach, FL on the North side of the Sands Harbor Resort and Marina. Parking is on the east side of the street in the City (pay) parking lot. Registration/check-in is 8:30 AM until the last boat returns. (at about 4:00 PM)

The boat leaves the Sands pier to the lighthouse beginning at 9:00 AM and every hour on the hour until 3:00 PM. The boat leaves the Lighthouse to the Sands pier beginning at 9:30 AM and every hour on the half hour until 3:30 PM. We suggest an arrival at the respective pier 20 minutes before the departure time. Friendly members will register/check you in, provide you with a wrist band, and assist you with boarding for the boat ride to/from the lighthouse. A current HLPS membership or a $25 PP transportation fee is required.

Other activities include an enchanted maze, ghostly games, Pirate ship bounce house and others, spooky crafts, including a slime station, and of course costume and car contest. Broward Children’s Center's Miles for Smiles Walkathon

Join Broward Children’s Center on Saturday, November 1 for the 11th Annual BCC Miles for Smiles Walkathon! This Walkathon benefits the infants, children, and young adults with special needs served by Broward Children’s Center, Inc. (BCC).

Check-in begins at 8 a.m. at the Pompano Beach Elks Lodge, located at 700 Northeast 10th Street. Starting at 9 a.m., participants will circle the 4.5-mile Pompano Beach Air Trail and end back at the Elks Lodge for food and entertainment.

All event participants will receive complimentary breakfast, lunch, and goodie bags, with the first 250 guests to check in also receiving Walkathon t-shirts. On-site entertainment includes bounce houses, face painting, and other children’s activities.

Admission is $25 at the door, or $20 pre-registration online. Children ages 10 and younger, as well as any child served by Broward Children’s Center, receives free admission. Military, police, fire fighters, and EMS receive a $5 discount. Well-behaved dogs are welcome!

Yuletide on Atlantic

Parade will feature eye dazzling floats, marching bands, dancers, fire clowns, and a variety of other amazing entertainment. After the Yuletide Parade join us in McNab Park for children’s activities, arts nd crafts, glitter tattoos, inflatable slides, and of course, Santa! Be sure to have your camera charged and ready for a picture opportunity with Santa Claus and other characters joining us in the park. Mayor Lamar Fisher will light the community Yuletide Tree to officially ring in the holiday season in Pompano Beach. Refreshments will be available in the park. Craft for a Cause: Christmas Craft for Jack & Jill Children's Center

Jack & Jill Children’s Center helps to break the cycle of poverty for children of low-income, working families in Broward County through family-oriented child care services and family intervention and support. In keeping with our mission, we hold our families accountable by requiring them to work a minimum of 30 hours a week and pay a portion of their child’s tuition. Additionally, parents are required to attend the Parent Enrichment Program and other life-skill workshops.

Jazz & Arts Festival

The City of Pompano Beach Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department is looking for art vendors to participate in the upcoming 5th annual Jazz and Arts Festival. Tables will be on sale, starting October 6, for this event, which will be held on Sunday, December 14th from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Pompano Community Park. Come out and enjoy the beautiful South Florida weather while listening to live jazz musicians and shopping for unique arts and crafts from local artists. In addition, this year’s event will also be featuring a wine tasting and a live sidewalk chalk exhibit. The Jazz and Arts Fest is a free event.

Please note for vendor tables, you may come to the Skolnick Community Center or the Emma Lou Olson Civic Center to select your table and register. However, you can register via mail as we can send you a registration form to complete and send back along with a check. Note if you register by mail, we will do our best to give you your requested table #. If we are unable, we will contact you with alternate options.
