In the Spotlight: Pompano Beach

After decades of living in the shadow of nearby cities, Pompano Beach has emerged as a shining economic success story. 2023 was a banner year for our city, attracting impressive developments, an array of new businesses, and a plethora of dining and entertainment experiences. These investments are critical to our city’s long-term success as they supply the essential revenue streams which fuel municipal services, help keep our property taxes stable, and enhance job growth.

Thanks to years of strategic planning by city leaders, Pompano Beach is now a premiere choice for investors and innovators, who seek outstanding locations for prestige projects, which become the economic engine for our community now, and for generations to come.

Increasing city revenue through smart growth is one of the best ways to protect residents from rising property taxes. During 2023, we invited renowned urban planner Joe Minicozzi to detail some of the city’s incredible achievements. For example, Minicozzi pointed to the tremendous success of the Pompano Beach Fishing Village, which this year welcomed new tenants including Baresco restaurant, Salt Life retail store, and How You Brewin’ coffee shop. Minicozzi noted that in 2013, the area was valued at $1.6 million per acre, but is now estimated at over $6.5 million per acre! The tremendous renaissance of the beachfront has also attracted iconic brands, such as Ritz Carlton and Waldorf Astoria. Both of these legendary companies have chosen Pompano Beach as the location for their next luxury residences.

Success is also spreading west, as Mincozzi noted, the area near Odd Breed in Old Town was valued at $1.3 million per acre in 2013 and is now estimated at $2.3 million per acre. Of course, the growth in Old Town is due to expand exponentially with the addition of mixed-used residential properties Old Town Square I and II, and cool new dining and lifestyle options including the recently opened Soulful Steep and South Bar and Kitchen, which overlooks the award-winning public space, known as Old Town’s Backyard.

Making Pompano Beach a place where everyone, from kids to seniors, will want to stay to play is another key part of our city’s growth. Thanks to the G.O. Bond projects, many city parks received state-of-the-art renovations while a new multi-million-dollar Senior Activity Center opened on MLK, Jr. Boulevard! Adding to the plethora of fun things to do, an array of entertainment options will be coming with Live! Entertainment District at The Pomp, which will include dining, hotel, retail, residential, office and lifestyle options, including Top Golf which is anticipated to open this month!

We are also very proud of our city’s relationship with Habitat for Humanity, which continues to provide affordable housing for our community and transform lives through home ownership. Small business owners also had an outstanding year in 2023, with many new entrepreneurs choosing to open shop in our town, including Flamingo Seafood, Popilicious Popcorn, The Bite Eatery, etc.

All this positive news about Pompano Beach, put our city in the spotlight…literally! A major TV commercial was recently shot on location here. Our beautiful, picturesque coastal waterfront area was the backdrop, serving as the quintessential Florida paradise for a variety of colorful, choreographed vignettes. With a budget of over $750,000 and featuring 150 cast and crew hires, this commercial showcased Florida’s skilled workforce, local talent, and diversity. We are so proud that our city was chosen for this honor, and we are thrilled that our success is putting us center stage, garnering all the positive recognition we deserve!
