Overview
The Pompano Beach Fishing Village, located in the East CRA District, is a transformed and walkable, six-acre beachfront destination with casual and upscale dining, a tiki bar, shops, hotel, and a state-of-the-art parking garage adjacent to the City’s first Visitors Center. Previously a lackluster and underutilized area, The Fishing Village has been an active project since 2017 and constitutes a major redevelopment initiative transforming the Pompano Beach waterfront and creating a world-class destination.
Master Plan
Beginning in 2010, a methodical and comprehensive process began that was focused on facilitating redevelopment around the Pier area, including the large municipal surface parking lot west of the Pier. The CRA assembled a technical team including CRA and City staff and outside consultants to determine the appropriate mix of uses by conducting market absorption, massing, parking and traffic analyses.
The City needed a partner from the private sector to implement this redevelopment and in 2011 a Request for Qualifications was issued. The City received two qualified respondents and after evaluation, recommended Pompano Pier Associates, LLC as the number one ranked firm and Master Developer for the project. In 2013, the Development Agreement outlining the terms for the new commercial development was approved that met the expectations of the public and the City Commission.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the first parcel was celebrated on January 27, 2017 and construction for the new development will continue through 2023.

Before and After
Benefits
The CRA’s vision for The Fishing Village provides Tax Increment Revenue benefits and creates new City rent revenue through the development and leasing of the new commercial spaces. These revenue streams circulate back into the community and help keep resident taxes low.
Fisher Family Pier
Built in 1963 and at the helm of the Pompano Beach Fishing Village is the newly improved Fisher Family Pier which spans over 900 feet. Enhancements to the Pier began in 2019 and include an elevated structure to withstand a rise in sea level, nearly double the width to allow for fishing and leisure strolling, large sails overhead providing shade, artwork depicting marine and sea life, and a new design at the foot of the Pier in the shape of a Pompano, a local fish which the city is named after. A dedication ceremony on April 2, 2022 honored the City’s former Mayor and current Broward County Mayor, Lamar Fisher.
