Cast Your Vote! Pompano Beach’s Field House at the Youth Sports Complex Shortlisted for AIA Florida’s 2024 People’s Choice Awards
The City of Pompano Beach proudly announces that The Field House at the Youth Sports Complex has been shortlisted as a finalist for the AIA Florida 2024 People’s Choice Awards. The Field House, designed by renowned architectural firm Brooks + Scarpa, is one of only seven finalists chosen from hundreds of entries. This prestigious award includes a public engagement element for selecting the final winner. “We are honored that our investment in our City’s youth is being recognized for its iconic design,” said Mayor Rex Hardin. “Our community has benefited greatly from this new complex, boosting our youth programs and providing a state-of-the-art facility for our residents to enjoy.”
The new Field House is a central landmark within the Youth Sports Complex, offering concessions, offices, storage, and restrooms. The design prioritizes community interaction, featuring an indoor-outdoor patio as a “living room” for the City. Visitors can enjoy shaded seating, playgrounds, and social gathering spaces.
The Field House features a dynamic concrete façade carved away, with its archways revealing a playful pop of vibrant yellow color that defines the wrap-around porch. That same color is used in the metal lattice structure that clads the north elevation, which also integrates a large sign visible from 10th Street. The building’s varied facades look different from every angle, offering a simple form of wayfinding within the park.
The Field House also incorporates sustainable features to minimize environmental impact. The building’s design maximizes natural ventilation and utilizes rainwater harvesting for irrigation. The low-impact approach reduces the need for additional irrigation, creating a resilient and sustainable space.
The industry has favorably acknowledged the Field House and Youth Sports Complex with accolades such as the A1A Fort Lauderdale Chapter 2023 Design Award, 2023 Smart Growth Excellence Award, and 2024 Broward County Naturescape Emerald Award.

Since its inception, the AIA Florida People’s Choice Awards Competition has received over 11 million votes worldwide. The competition celebrates the architecture that enriches the places where we live, work, and play. The winner will be announced during the 2024 AIA Florida Design & Honors Awards on Saturday, July 20th at the Breakers in Palm Beach.
